The Redondo Beach Skate Park was officially dedicated – along with its new mural – in a small ceremony at the Pier Jan. 29. The park opened in 2023. Its 90 x 18-foot mural was painted in October and November, called “Skate Waves” by Andy Jenkins.

The park was a long-sought project, spurred by resident Dave Brenier and taken up by late Redondo Beach Mayor Bill Brand and others.

“The city had never had a skate park, we were somewhat behind on that; now it’s such an iconic place,” said City Councilman Todd Loewenstein. “It’s been a challenge – how to get the concrete to the site, noise concerns – but it’s a great example to point to to show the area has been reactivated.”

The park was built by Spohn Ranch Skate Parks of Los Angeles.

The effort to build a Redondo Beach facility began in 2017, first set for the centrally-located Dominguez Park. The spot proved too expensive, though, because it would have required construction on landfill-ground.

The Pad 10 site at the Pier is part of a 10,000 square-foot circle across from the International Boardwalk. The $110,000 park was built with city funds and a $25,000 donation from the L.A. Kings. ER
