Baywatch Community Calendar 12-21-23

Beach Cities Toy Drive organizers  Sam Edgerton, JR Reviczky, Sandy Anlieu, Ron Newman, Jill Lamkin and Pete Tucker organized over 100 volunteers to help wrap over 5,000 gifts at the Manhattan Beach Joslyn Center last Saturday. The gifts were collected throughout December at local businesses and police and fire stations for distribution to local charities, including the Richstone Family Center, St. Cross 1736 Crisis Center, the Salvation Army and the Harbor UCLA Child Crisis Center. Seaside holiday lights, Torrance

Sleepy Hollow in S. Torrance becomes a wonderland of white lights each holiday season. The official entrance is Pacific Coast Highway at Calle Mayor. Best viewed by walking. Lights are bright from 6 – 10 p.m. through New Year’s Day.

After school craft, N. Redondo library

Fun Friday at Madrona Marsh

Led by Miss Cindy, a hands-on program for preschoolers, ages 3-6 years, and their parents or guardians. Free. Every Friday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The program will incorporate storytime, science, art, and a tour in the Preserve emphasizing the chosen topic. The first hour inside the Nature Center and the second hour in the Preserve. Redondo Elks Veterans pancake breakfast

Join the Redondo Beach Lodge #1378 every 4th Sunday of the month for a Veteran’s Pancake Breakfast. Military Veterans dine for free. $12 per person. Children under 5 yrs. are free. Ratopia Surf Classic

The Ratopia Surf Classic was established in August of 2005 after a local surfer, 22 year-old Denny Bales, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The contest’s initial goals were to support Denny, increase community awareness of leukemia and lymphoma and to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Christmas tree recycling in Hermosa

Christmas trees can be picked up for recycling on your normal trash collection day or dropped off at a special collection bin on Valley Drive, north of 8th Street, Hermosa Beach. A large bin will begin the day after Christmas and continue through the second week of January. Remove the stand, nails, ornaments, lights and tinsel. All trees except for those that are flocked or coated with fire retardant, will be recycled. Information: hermosabeach.gov.
