Two men, Richard Jackson, 18, and Damian Gray, 19, both of Los Angeles, were arrested for an alleged residential burglary in Manhattan Beach last Wednesday on the 1700 block of Gates Avenue. Both suspects are being held on $50,000 bail.

A resident called the police after noticing a broken window and hearing footsteps in one of the bedrooms, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department. The caller was hiding inside the home; the suspects left the home after being “startled by the resident,” according to the police.

A witness told the police he saw two males running eastbound on Curtis Avenue and Aviation Boulevard in Redondo Beach. One suspect was found walking in the area, the other was found hiding in a resident’s garage – both were subsequently arrested. The police discovered a purse and a gun where the hiding suspect was found, which was stolen from the caller’s property.

Gray was convicted of accessory in December of 2010, for which he served 180 days in county jail.

Officer Stephanie Martin of the Manhattan Beach Police Department reminded residents to stay safe by keeping doors and garages closed and locked, even when they are home. She also said residents should call the police, not friends or spouses, immediately upon hearing suspicious noises in their homes.

“Don’t try to confront someone in your home,” Martin said, adding, “You don’t know if they’re armed or under the influence.”
