Departures, Deployments & a Day of Debauchery: Jake Mathis, Corey Holden, and Matt Nelson will be honored at their farewell beach bash somewhere between 6th  and 8th streets in HB. Ruckus starts at noon. Other trouble soon to follow. May 12 at 12:05 pm until 3:05 am May 13. Don’t show up empty-handed. Wish them well before they ship off!

Heart and Pole. New season of pole dancing classes begin week of May 14.  Six week series, 90 min classes. Sounds like fun. Sign up online. www.heartandpole.com

Free Innocent Fun: photo booth inside American Junkie. It’s a great idea. Perfect for both the South Bay narcissist and 909 import alike.

Barnacles’ pretty new orange awning is up. May come right back down due to some mumbo jumbo about a permit.

Mickie Finnz offers open mic with full back-up band “Feed the Kitty,” very fun karaoke-style with lyrics sheet and all. You provide the vocals. Tuesdays at 9:00pm.

Celebrity Sightings: Just when I’ve decided to let them fly under the radar, they come out of the woodwork! I will not be outing local residents however. Tom Hanks was seen at Saint Rocke supporting wife Rita Wilson at her debut concert. He even said Saint Rocke was awesome. Just ask Colleen. Ron Paul was rubbing shoulders with Michael Zislis at ROCK’N FISH. Food Network was filming a show at Muchos with chef Ann Burrell all week. Saw a famous dude at American Junkie and a couple famous chicks at 12 + Highland Hammitt trunk show. Fun Fact: the ratio of women to men at that purse party was 200:2.

Is always being the nice guy leaving you broke? Splitmytab.net is a free service for keeping track of who owes you money.  It uses Facebook to alert your friends when you send them a tab.  You can split bills, groceries, concert tickets, or whatever else you want.  Works both in your browser and on most mobile phones. http://splitmytab.net

Dating Tip 3: Guys, do not overserve a girl. There’s no need for that. Who wants to take home someone who doesn’t really like them anyway? Buy her favorite song from the jukebox or make a dj request instead. You don’t have to like it, but you do have to tolerate it. This way, you can check out her dance moves. It’s a win-win.

My Favorite Thing Week #15: Sauvignon Blanc, Peter Michael, ‘L’Apres Midi,’ Knights Valley 2009  at Mar’sel. Clean, crisp, cold. Snappy. Good stuff. Knowledgeable servers make confident suggestions for dinner pairings. Expert house sommelier schools staff regularly and it shows.

Bartender of the Week: Jennifer Miller at Saint Rocke. Known for her lemon drop martini, this girl makes accurate drinks with lightning speed–perfect for a high volume happy hour.  You know that smart plus pretty equals sexy. Well this girl is super smart. You do the math. She’s set to take off to Las Vegas, to participate in the World Series of Poker. I really meant to say law school in Wyoming. Catch her while you still can.
