Ruby’s Car Shows

The soundtrack to “American Graffiti” every summer Friday evening, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Ruby’s parking lot  while owners of hot rods, street rods and muscle cars share stories with one another and visitors. Ruby’s Diner is located at 245 N. Harbor Dr., Redondo Beach.

Electric Cars: Fad or future

Electric automobiles, including one of the few Tesla convertibles on the market today are on exhibit at the Automobile Driving Museum. Palos Verdes Hikes

Several two-hour hikes on the hilly streets and trails of Palos Verdes. Start with the “slow” group designed for newcomers and work your way up to the fast/strenuous group for experts. All groups meet every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot near Rite Aid Pharmacy at Hawthorne Blvd. and Silver Spur road in Rolling Hills Estate. South Bay Boardriders Big Wave Challenge

El Nino 2016 produced some of the biggest and most consistent swells in recent memories. Seaside Lagoon reopens

The Seaside Lagoon is open daily through the summer, beginning today. Swim in the protected, salt water lagoon. A children’s play area, snack bar and barbeque pits and tables for parties are also available. 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. daily through September 5. Adults (over 17): $7. Children (2-17): $6. Under 2 Free.

Memorial Day Ceremony

The Veterans Memorial Task Force, Redondo Beach Elks Lodge #1378 and the City of Redondo Beach host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Veterans Park. The service will be followed by a BBQ picnic open to the public and sponsored by the Redondo Beach Elks. The BBQ is free to all Veterans and members of the military services, fire personnel, and police officers. Do you enjoy our local nature and want to share it with others? Become a White Point Docent. No experience required, and training will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 18 of age and willing to submit a background check.
