The search for a missing pier jumper was called off Sunday afternoon after rescuers were unable to find the missing man.
David Thompson, 22, from Redondo Beach, and an unnamed woman were seen jumping off the Horseshoe Beach area of the Redondo Beach Pier Saturday around 11:08 p.m.

“They gave another female friend their shoes, socks and cell phone,” said Redondo Beach Police Department Sergeant Shawn Freeman. “It was not a suicide jump. There are no indications of intention of harm.”
According to police, both were intoxicated.
The Redondo Beach Police Department and Redondo Beach Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call from onlookers who had seen the two jump. Rescuers were able to save the woman. Witnesses say they last saw the man being overtaken by a wave.
According to a release from the RBPD, the woman initially told rescuers that she was the only person who had jumped. Responders had information that conflicted with the woman’s statement and the search continued for the missing man.
The Los Angeles County Lifeguard and U.S. Coast Guard joined in the search. They searched the area until 3 a.m. and the search resumed at daybreak.
Police also went to Thompson’s residence in hope that he made it to shore and went home, but he was nowhere to be found.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of hypothermia, submersion and intoxication, according to police. While at the hospital the woman admitted that her friend had jumped off the pier as well.
A dive team from the Los Angeles County Fire Department scoured the area and was unable to locate Thompson. U.S Coast Guard continued to search the area with boats, divers and helicopters until Sunday afternoon before recovery efforts were suspended.
