Hosting Millikan last Friday could not have come at a better time for Redondo’s football team. Not only did the 39-0 shutout over the boys from Long Beach put the Sea Hawks in the win column, the game provided a boost of confidence for Coach Gene Simon’s squad, particularly sophomore quarterback Harrison Faecher.

The contest also gave junior running back Anthony Philyaw an opportunity to show what he could do. Seeking more playing time, Philyaw transferred from Serra and made the most of his first game with Redondo, gaining 84 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown run, on five carries.
Brandon Kim opened the scoring for the Sea Hawks with a 4-yard run and, after Philyaw’s touchdown, Davion Goodall hauled in a 10-yard pass from Faecher to give Redondo a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Goodall scored again on a 27-yard pass play in the second quarter, and Deon Williams caught a 1-yard pass for a 32-0 halftime lead.
Bren Galbasin capped off the scoring for the Sea Hawks with a 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Redondo (1-2) will have its hands full Friday when the Sea Hawks travel to take on a very athletic Culver City (2-0) team in hopes of avenging a 21-17 home loss to the Centaurs last season.
Culver City is coming off a 42-7 rout at Peninsula and utilizes a plethora of talented wide receivers in its spread offense, led by returning All-CIF selection Alex Jackson (5-11, 175) who had seven receptions for 140 yards, including touchdown catches of nine, 62 and 38 yards.
Joining Jackson as targets for quarterback Lukas O’Connor (6-4, 195) are Julius Wilson (6-0, 175), Reggie House (5-9. 170), Kevin Porche (5-11, 180) and Jimmy Haywood (6-1, 175).

Wilson added six catches for 164 yards with touchdown strikes of 58 and 63 yards against Peninsula in what turned out to be a career day for O’Connor who connected on 21-of-28 passes for 408 yards and five touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Running back Akili Skannal (5-9, 205) will get the bulk of the load in the Centaur’s ground game when needed.
Culver City’s defense is a force up front with Khalil Pettway (6-4, 220) leading a group of linebackers that include fellow returnees Ronald Jones (6-0, 190) and Derrius Morrow (5-10, 190).
The defensive line is stout with Jonathan Jackson (5-11, 260), Joel Ward (6-3, 290) and Deon Young (6-2, 270) providing a formidable wall.
While was savoring its first taste of victory this season, Mira Costa was left with a bad taste in it mouth after its third game.
The visiting Mustangs could not get on the scoreboard against a talented Serra team that shutout its opponent for the second straight week.
Mira Costa was held to 105 yards total offense and was not match for the Cavaliers’ athleticism and depth. The Mustangs will have two weeks to lick their wounds and the bye week comes at an opportune time
When Mira Costa returns to action on Friday, Sept. 30, the Mustangs host Chaminade, the top-ranked team in the Western Division. The Eagles return 16 starters from last year’s team that reached the semifinals.
