A 25-year-old Redondo Beach man driving an SUV intentionally rammed a pedestrian who took issue with his driving, police said.

The pedestrian, a Hermosa man, did not require hospitalization but was treated at the scene for injuries to his knee, arm and hands, police said.

Jared Montes Polk was arrested following the incident in a Pier Avenue crosswalk, in the middle of town, about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Detective Mick Gaglia said.

The incident began when Polk, driving a black Honda Element SUV with temporary license plates from a car dealership, “screeched to a stop,” nearly hitting two pedestrians in a crosswalk on Pier Avenue near Cypress Street, Gaglia said.

“One of the pedestrians verbally questioned suspect Polk and his actions. Suspect Polk then reversed his vehicle and repositioned it in the lane and drove directly at the two pedestrians. Suspect Polk’s vehicle collided with the victim while the other pedestrian was able to move out of the vehicle’s path,” Gaglia said.

The impact knocked the pedestrian onto the pavement, Gaglia said.

Hermosa police alerted neighboring agencies and Redondo police stopped Polk’s SUV, and then Polk was identified as the suspect driver by the victim and others, police said.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Detective Sgt. Raul Saldana 310-318-0351 or rsaldana@hermosapolice.org.
