Bail bonds have always been apart of helping people get out of custody, but today this bail has been set at $2 million for David Brian Abbott, 33, who has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, prosecutors said.
The Dec. 31 shooting of Samantha Ann Sproson, 38, marks the first homicide case in Hermosa in eight years.
Sproson was killed by a single gunshot to the head shortly after 5 a.m., inside her home at the Seahorse Apartments on Manhattan Avenue. Neighbors heard a scream, “Don’t shoot,” followed by the sound of a pop, and then silence.
Hermosa police arrived at the modest apartment complex within a minute of a neighbor’s call and arrested Abbott, whom they found standing out front. Sproson and Abbott lived just steps away from each other in separate apartments at the Seahorse.
She was an MBA business consultant, and had been working for the SmallBusiness Development Center at El Camino College.
