Hermosa resident lauded
Hermosa Beach resident Larry Muno was presented the Saint Sebastian’s Arrow Award for outstanding achievement from the Saint Sebastian Project, a local non-profit founded to help support team sports in under-served schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese. The project supports 24 teams in 12 inner-city Catholic schools by providing uniforms, equipment, and coaching stipends necessary to field a team.
A firefighter for the city of Vernon, Muno is now the head coach at St. Bernard High School. In two years he rebuilt the St. Monica football program, which had won only one game in three seasons prior to his arrival. The 2010 season was highlighted by an 8-3 record that included the Mariner’s first playoff appearance since 2003.
