Beach Cities Sports: Baseball, basketball, volleyball and more

Beach Volleyball: The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments on Saturday, Apr. 18 at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Starting at 9 a.m., competition includes Campsurf Men’s A, Campvolley Women’s A and Coed Open divisions. Entry fee is $45 per team ($65 for Coed). The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will be holding its Isadore B. Dockweiler Open on Sunday, Apr. 26 at Dockweiler State Beach. Competition includes Boys 14, 16 and Girls 14, 15, 16, 18 divisions. Cost is $65 per team. For more information, visit aauclubbeach.com.

Basketball: Coach Dave Miller, a current NBA and College basketball analyst, has announced his MVPCAMP summer basketball dates to be held at Aviation Sports Complex 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd Redondo Beach. The Monday through Friday sessions run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. July 6-10 and Aug. 3-7. Both are open to boys and girls ages 5 -14. Online application is available at mvpcamp.com. Football: Registration is open for a new Sunday night Co-Ed Flag Football on the Beach League in Hermosa Beach. Games are held at 10th St. and The Strand at 6:30 p.m. beginning April 26 and are played with two 20-minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Registration is offered as a team only and available at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. or online at prankmonkey.org. Entry fee is $265 per team with a 10 person roster limit. Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is accepting applications for its “Sixth Tool” $5,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 31. Applicants must reside within 10 miles of Beach City Baseball Academy’s facility in El Segundo and be a graduating 2015 high school senior. Final award is contingent upon applicant’s acceptance and attendance at an accredited college in the United States (university, four-year, or junior college), receipt of an offer to participate in that institution’s baseball program and letter of recommendation from their high school baseball coach. Cycling: The 3rd Annual Tour de Pier, a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the Manhattan Beach Pier, takes place Sunday, May 17. Four 50-minute sessions begin at 9 a.m. Whether riding solo or as a team, each bike requires a fundraising minimum of $500. For more information, visit tourdepier.org.
