Art and culture by night in downtown San Pedro

Searching for the bright side of the moon

Photos and text by Bondo Wyszpolski

Even with COVID lingering and the risk of another surge, the art scene in downtown San Pedro has reemerged. Galleries and art studios are open. Music and live theater have been staples of the Grand Annex and Little Fish, but note should be taken of Collage, an intimate McCabe’s-like venue, the brainchild in part of Easy Reader food critic Richard Foss.

In support of the people of Ukraine, Collage recently hosted a Ukrainian bandura concert with Luke Lashchuk Miller, a Klezmer concert with Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi, and an Ukrainian Easter Egg (Pysanky) decorating workshop.

The concert and art space also presented Jessica Fichot and her band on a recent Saturday, with guest musician Annie Zhou. Herewith, a few snapshots of people who’ve performed recently at Collage, and others whose endeavors have added something of beauty and substance to the San Pedro community.
