Growing up in the countryside outside Hamburg, Germany, Johanna Derbolowsky had always been drawn to the spiritual realm. With a doctor father who practiced psychiatry, neurology, psychotherapy, acupuncture, homeopath among other disciplines, she frequently crossed paths with enlightened individuals who performed what a normal person would consider miracles.
One particular man, who herded her family’s sheep during the winters, was the town’s go-to person for skin infections, she recalled. He would speak directly to warts and shingles on an individual, and visibly ward them off.
“So at a very young age, I thought things were possible that normal people thought were not,” Derbolowsky said.
Despite her initial resistance to following her father’s studies, such incidences and healers deeply intrigued her. Now with more than 20 years of studying the field of metaphysics and practicing spirituality across various disciplines, the Redondo Beach resident is imparting this knowledge as a guidance onto others via her self-published title, The Transformation Promise: A Book about Love, Healing and the Flow of Life.
Originally, Derbolowsky had set out to write an autobiography documenting her trek and hardships from Germany to the University of Maine (where she studied broadcasting) then onto New York and Los Angeles as an oft-traveling camera assistant in the film business.
“But then the book had its own agenda and I had to follow that,” she explained. “It became more of a how-to book.”
The premise of the book is based on the “Quantum Heart Field Experience,” a philosophy she developed to help transform life situations, overcome physical and emotional pain and generate self-love. It supports the concept of structure and flow, which she believes composes every human being.

“We need our structures: our bodies, our environment, our support systems,” Derbolowsky explained, “but that structure can also become a prison because it can really confine us to live a certain way or to be doomed to get a certain disease … and the flow is what we are, how we flow in the structure.”
That’s what the book is essentially about: identifying the structures in your life and expanding them in order to flow as one with the universe. This concept, she explained, is applicable to people of any age in all walks of life.
“Humans are habitual lazy beings; we like to repeat the same things over and over again, and to move to a new routine is not that easy,” she explained. “Sometimes it’s difficult to see yourself.”
In her Redondo Beach-based private practice, she helps her clients see these structures by relying on her spirituality and clairvoyance “to get the information and see what is the highest place” the two of them can reach together.
“Every person who comes is different and they have different issues and problems,” Derbolowsky said. “But in the end it comes down to, how can I move to a happier place? How can I respond differently to a situation? What is the actual learning experience? Where is it pushing me?
“There’s room for a bigger, greater stage at any stage in your life. If you’re sick, there’s the possibility of healing. We can always transform. It’s about going from where you are to the next step.”
In addition to being a spiritual counselor, Derbolowsky is an ordained minister, life coach, certified matrix energetics practitioner, clinical hypnotherapist and a reiki master.
