The 10th Annual Manhattan Beach 5K Summer Solstice race will be held Saturday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The race is held on the morning of the year’s lowest tide, creating a wide, flat, fast, out-and-back course on hard packed sand. Entry fee $30. Kids races $25. Unique awards given to top five in each age group. Free T-shirts to pre-registrants and late entrants while supplies last. Guinness World Record holder Christian Burke hosts the Hermosa 24 Ultramarathon Saturday and Sunday from noon to noon giving participants a chance to break his record of running in the sand for 83.04 miles in 24 hours. The 3.46-mile soft-sand course goes from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Solo and relay categories available with proceeds benefiting local schools.
