Nearly barefoot runner Patrick Sweeney and fellow Manhattan Beach resident Margo Thole won the men’s and women’s divisions of the 16th Annual Murad Grand View Gator 5K Run on Saturday in times of 17:18 and 21:20, respectively.
Fourth grade teacher Taryn Spragg was crowned Gator Run Queen for enlisting more of her students to participate in the run than any other teacher.
The popular end of school tradition has raised close to $60,000 over the past six years, according to race director Tiffany Friedman. Proceeds go to the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation.
Kids who completed the run all medaled. A new popular event this year was the Friendship Course, which shared the finish with the 5K, but with a shorter course for special needs kids.
Following the race, runners enjoyed complimentary juice and cookies. Murad proved each winner with a swag bag of skin care products.
