Armed robbery: A Hermosan was robbed at gunpoint about 9 p.m. Monday, May 2 as he walked toward his home in the area of Valley Drive and Sixth Street. A man wielding what appeared to be a 9mm pistol emerged from a black Cadillac Escalade and took his backpack, wallet and iPhone, got back in the car and fled. Items stolen included cash, credit cards and a laptop computer.
Cycle Saturday The third annual Bike Education “FunShop” will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Hermosa Valley Park amphitheater. Map the ‘hood “Learn to Map Your Neighborhood” will be the program at Hermosa Beach CERT Trained Residents’ monthly meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at the Emergency Operations Center, 710 Pier Ave., located west of the gym in the Community Center.

Mural unveiling The nonprofit Hermosa Murals Project will officially unveil the first of 10 planned, large murals on exterior walls around town — a recreation of a 1924 photo of downtown Hermosa on the downtown municipal parking structure, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Hermosa Avenue and 14th Street.
The celebration will continue with a live auction and special print sales at the Conference Room of the Beach House hotel on The Strand, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The mural was painted in a multi-week process that saw renowned mural artist Art Mortimer and his assistant artist Hilary Wootton working atop twin scissor lifts.
