Leadership Redondo’s project for 2021-22 is to add amenities and beautify the homeless pallet shelters on Kingsdale Avenue. The project was approved by the city council last week.
Members of the class presented a video on their plans, which are to paint each shelter blue on the bottom half, leaving the upper half white; build a more secure, and solid gazebo for administration; and provide doormats, down comforters and toiletries caddies through fundraising or donations.
Money may also be raised by an auction, from donated items.
City councilman Nils Nehrenheim praised the idea, as did his colleagues and Mayor Bill Brand.
Nehrenheim noted he’ll send Leadership Redondo’s link to his contacts.
“We’ll get you guys the money, lickity split, no problem,” he said.
Leadership Redondo was created in 2000, under the auspices of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce. Participants undertake a community project during the 18 month-program, while also learning about civic affairs. ER
