Beach Tennis: The Beach Tennis Association will be hosting its Spring Fling tournament this weekend at 7th St. and The Strand in Manhattan Beach. On Saturday, Apr. 23 Men’s and Women’s  Pro Doubles and Amateur Doubles competition takes place. Mixed Doubles competition will be held Sunday, April 24. Running: Registration is open for the 25th Annual El Segundo PTA Run for Education to be held  Saturday, April 23 beginning at 8 a.m. in front of El Segundo High School, 640 Main Street. The Kids’ Fun Run follows the 5K/10K races at 9:45 a.m. Registered participants receive t-shirts and finisher medals. Both 5K and 10K courses are USATF certified featuring electronic chip timing. This year’s title sponsor is Big Five Sporting Goods and overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers receive race trophies. Entry fees are $20 (Kids Run), $35 (5K) and $40 (10K). The Spring Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk will take place Saturday, April 23 at 8 a.m. Participants begin at the Hermosa Beach Pier travel in the sand to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Entry fee is $40. Fundraising:  Mira Costa’s State Champion rugby team is one of eight teams nationwide to be invited to the US Rugby Nationals Tournament to be held May 19-21 in Charlotte, N.C. The goal is to reach $30,000 to cover travel costs and fees for all 25 players and their coaches/trainers. Donations are 501c3 tax deductible. Beach Volleyball: The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments on Saturday, April 23 at the at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Competition includes Mens B, Womens Open and AA divisions. For more information, visit cbva.com.

 

As part of its Junior Beach Tour, USA Volleyball will be holding the first of two Hermosa Beach Open tournaments on Saturday, Apr. 30. For more information, visit teamusa.org.

 

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will host the Hermosa Beach Open featuring boys 14/16 and girls 10/12/14/15/16/18 divisions on Sunday, May 8 at Hermosa Beach. Entry fees are $65 per team. For more information and to register, visit aaubeach.org.

 

Football: The Co-ed Flag Football on the Beach Thursday night league begins Thursday, Apr. 28 at 6 p.m. at 10th St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Games are played with two 20-minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks, non-contact, girl TDs worth double points. Registration offered as a team only and must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach. Cost is $265 per team with 10 person roster limit. Cycling: The 4th Annual Tour de Pier, a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the Manhattan Beach Pier, takes place Sunday, May 15. Five 50-minute sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. Whether riding solo or as a team, each bike requires a fundraising minimum of $750. For more information, visit tourdepier.org.

 

Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is accepting applications for its “Trosky Sixth Tool” $5,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 31. Applicants must reside within 10 miles of Beach City Baseball Academy’s facility in El Segundo and be a graduating 2016 high school senior. Final award is contingent upon applicant’s acceptance and attendance at an accredited college in the United States (university, four-year, or junior college), receipt of an offer to participate in that institution’s baseball program and letter of recommendation from their high school baseball coach. Triathlon: Registration is open for the 12th annual Redondo Beach Triathlon, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12 at the Veteran’s Park/Pier area in Redondo Beach. All of the proceeds go to Cheer for Children, a non-profit organization that gives seasonal parties and raises money for acutely ill children at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The USAT sanctioned scenic course event consists of a 1/2-mile swim, 6-mile bike, and 2-mile run. Space is limited to the first 600 entries. A non-competitive mini-sprint (half the distances) is also available. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division and the top two relay teams. Sprint fees are $65 (ages 13-19 and 65 and older), $80 (ages 20-64), $115 (relay). Mini-sprint fees are $6 and $85 for the relay. Add $5 after Mar. 31. For more information, visit rbtriathlon.com.
