Community garden
The sign-up process for for a plot in the forthcoming community garden at South Park begins Thursday morning.
South Park, which reopened earlier this year after a multi-year redesign, features a community garden in the place of a former roller rink. Residents can obtain plots in the garden for growing their own produce.
Sign-ups begin at the park on Valley Drive at 9 a.m., and will go until 6 p.m. The ribbon cutting and official opening of the garden will take place Saturday at 3 p.m.
Swearing in
Stacey Armato will be sworn in as the fifth member of the Hermosa Beach City Council Thursday evening.
The newly elected councilmember prevailed over challenger Trent Larson in a March 1 special election. Armato’s selection gives the council a full five-person roster for the first time since Sept. 2015, when former councilmember Nanette Barragan resigned to run for Congress.
The installation ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in City Council chambers.
Hearts of Hermosa
The Hermosa Beach Education Foundation will host its annual Hearts of Hermosa party, a fundraiser to benefit city schools, this Saturday evening.
The event will take place at the Hermosa Community Center, with doors opening at 6 p.m., and will feature a silent auction, dinner and dancing.
