Building Renaming Ceremony
De De Hicks knew that her Volunteer Center Board had decided to name the headquarters for her, but they were able to surprise her at the donor recognition party with an oil portrait of her favorite photo portrait. Hicks retired Dec. 31 after almost 30 years as CEO and president of the Volunteer Center, South Bay/Harbor/Long Beach. More than 60 donors gathered on Dec. 3 to honor her with the naming and with their support of the De De Hicks Legacy Funds, which has raised more than $300,000 to continue the programs she initiated: Operation Teddy Bear, Food For Kids, teen volunteer development and the Durfee Scholarships.
