
JoAnn Turk was honored with the Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award before Mayor Mike Gin delivered his State of the City speech on March 28.
Turk, who has helped build Redondo Beach as a destination for fun and recreation, is currently president of the King Harbor Association. She is originally from the small town of Jasper, Minnesota.
Turk has been active serving in the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce as well as the non-profit Cheer for Children, which benefits children with acute illnesses and their families. Turk, who has also served as director of marketing for the Redondo Beach Marina, was instrumental in organizing the 50th anniversary of King Harbor in 2009.
She was also honored as Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce for 1998-99, as Volunteer of the Year for 2006-07, and has served as president of the Redondo Beach Round Table twice. Upon receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the State of the City Turk said, “I’m flabbergasted and so overwhelmed…if I’d known this was going happen I’d have worn a girdle!”
