Battle of the Badges

Battle of the Badges 2014The annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive will take place Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Police Department community room. The campaign, sponsored by MBPD and American Red Cross, is an opportunity for all badge-carrying personnel along with their friends, family and neighbors to donate blood and ultimately help save lives.

Dine ‘n’ Discover

The first Dine ‘n’ Discover luncheon of the year for older adults will take place next Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Joslyn Center. Attendees must RSVP by Monday at 310-802-5430.

MBUSD music competitions

The public is invited to two free music competitions sponsored by the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club featuring young Manhattan Beach musicians. The Manhattan Beach Middle School competition takes place next Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at the school’s multipurpose room and offers a cash prize of $175 for first place, $100 for second place and $75 for third place in two categories–band instruments and string instruments.

The Mira Costa High School competition is on Friday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. at the school auditorium, with similar cash prizes for four divisions. An overall winner selected from Mira Costa’s competition will be invited to compete at a Rotary District competition at Loyola Marymount University this March.

Neptunians to celebrate 105th birthday

Tickets are now on sale for the Manhattan Beach Neptunian Woman’s Club’s 105th birthday party, which will take place Saturday, Jan. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Neptunian Clubhouse at 920 Highland Avenue. The night will feature martinis by Jonathan of Darren’s’ food by Paul Martin’s, The Fish Bar and Tin Roof. Dessert will be provided by Manhattan Creamery. Feed and Kitty will perform and dancing will abound. Tickets are $75 per person and available at
