5 Bars with Flattering Light
Let’s define flattering light: relatively accurate, yet not too harsh. None of that direct overhead stuff or fluorescent junk. Makes you look a little cuter than you are, but not different than you are (a la Mermaid). Should be no big surprises in the morning.

1.Watermans –Looks warm. Feels cozy. Clean air abounds, even on the patio. You’ll find non-smoking cuties here. Go find Matt, professional winker, moonlights as a server. Notable dimples, worth a drop-in just for him. Help yourself to free chips and salsa.

2.North End – Have a rockin’ time, even on a Thursday night in shorts and flip-flops, or sweatshirt and fat pants. Juke box has great song selection. Circle bar provides effortless people watching. Sly. Hot local guys. Cute chicks.

3.Game Changers – Great for the claustrophobic like me. High ceilings and lots of space make for great dancing on the weekends. You will feel at home in a sparkly dress, trucker hat, or both! Pool table if you don’t wanna watch sports. Spot Jen always smiling.

4.Saint Rocke– Five dollar happy hour, intimate booths if you want to do some low-talking with a friend. Also an interactive bar if you roll solo. I’ve done both. Dim, but not dark. Feels like you’re going into someone’s bedroom. Awesome joint, even with no band. Likey.

5.Silvio’s –Come on, any joint with catering vans has good food. Good food. Surround yourselves with some of those hottie Cross-fit guys on a Paleo diet. Share a Carnaval Plate—a week’s worth of protein. The always kind Jennifer welcomes you.

Hangover help: Uncle Bill’s Pancake House in Manhattan Beach. Have a cheddar cheese and bacon waffle. Nope, not with your waffle, not on your waffle. Inside. All that artery-clogging goodness gets mixed up inside the waffle batter. Go ahead, put butter on it. ‘Cause it just don’t matter now.
