Basketball: Registration is available for the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball League’s winter 2014 season. Celebrating its 33rd year, the league is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade and is played at the Hermosa Beach Community Center Gym, 710 Pier Ave. Mandatory tryouts will be held Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20. Surfing: Fresh Brothers presents The Jimmy Surf Fiesta from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at 42nd Street in Manhattan Beach. Open to surfers of all ages and skill levels, the event includes a raffle, silent auction and After Party at 6 p.m. at Veranda’s, 481 Rosecrans Ave., Manhattan Beach. The fiesta celebrates the life of Jimmy Miller while raising funds for ocean therapy to support the Wounded Warriors, Veterans and Children with Special Needs. The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation’s mission is the healing of others through surfing and therapeutic support. Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy is holding its Monday after School Baseball Clinic where batting and fielding skills are emphasized using the academy’s indoor batting facility and outdoor field. This program has a 6:1 coach ratio and is recommended for ages 9 through 11. Time is 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Players can choose the number of classes they wish to attend and can start any Monday. The cost is $35 for each two-hour session or $125 for a package of four sessions. Cycling: The Dave Richardson Race Series, an annual event sponsored by the Redondo Beach-based South Bay Wheelmen, is ongoing with the fourth of 11 races to be held Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Dominguez Hills. The races are a mix of criteriums, road races, and time trials. Only South Bay Wheelmen members can race and riders must have a United States Cycling Federation license to participate. Triathlon: Registration is ongoing for the Day at the Beach Triathlon to be held in Hermosa Beach on Sunday beginning at 7 a.m. Competition includes a ¼-mile swim, 9-mile bike and 3-mile run. To register, visit mesp.com or call 818-707-8867.

 

Fundraising: The Redondo Union High School Alumni will be holding its “Mix on the Bricks” event on Friday, Oct. 11 from 5-6:30 p.m. on Alumni Walk in the center of the campus. Reunite with old friends and view or purchase bricks for the walk prior to the Homecoming game when the Sea Hawks take on the Peninsula Panthers in the Bay League opener. Running: Registration is open for the GI Joe Fall Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk held Saturday, Nov. 9 beginning at 7 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Event includes t-shirts, finish line photos, prizes and a post-race party. Cost is $25 per runner through Sept. 20 ($35 Sept. 21-Oct. 18; $40 Oct. 19-31; $45 in November). Team prices are available.
