“The Hermosa Beach Art Walk will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with 100 fine artists displaying their work,” says Ken Klade, who’s been nudging the event along since it first began. “There will be artists from around the country, with live music, dancing, kids activities, and food.

“In addition to the art festival,” he adds, “the Arts Group of Hermosa Beach – which founded the Art Walk – supports local art projects, (gives) art supplies for the schools, and provides four scholarships to local students pursuing the arts in college. Every year the Board of Directors selects a featured artist whose work will be utilized for all the promotional materials for the year. This Year, Don Adkins has been selected as the featured artist.”

“I’ve had the pleasure to be part of the Hermosa Art Walk from its inception 10 years ago,” Adkins says. “We’ve seen the transition of this event from its beginning to now being a really top-notch fine arts event, one of the best. Having this here in the South Bay versus having to head into L.A. or the Westside is great, showing that the South Bay does have culture.

“I’m both humbled and ecstatic (at being chosen this year’s featured artist). Living and working in the South Bay, I’ve elected to create a suite of hand-tinted black-and-white images of Hermosa that captures this place that we know and love. These are printed and tinted by hand. I look forward to sharing this work and seeing the usual fun and cool patrons at this year’s event.”

June 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the lawn of the Hermosa Beach Community Center, located on the southwest corner of Pier Avenue and Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach (310) 379-4229.
