Basketball: Redondo Union seniors Terrell Carter and Ian Fox signed Letters of Intent in front of family and friends at a special ceremony Wednesday at Sea Hawk Pavilion. According to head coach Reggie Morris Jr., they were the first members of the Redondo boys basketball team to receive Division 1 scholarships since 2002.

The 6-foot-8, 265-pound Carter will be playing for Fresno State

“I went up there and felt like it was the right choice,” Carter said. “”It’s close to home and they’ve got a good program for me with a lot of young players coming in that I will be with for a long time.”

Fox, a 6-foot, 170-pound point guard who will be playing for Idaho State, was thankful Morris who became the Sea Hawks head coach after Fox’s sophomore season.

“I think I have a good chance of helping Idaho State turn the program around and win a Big Sky championship,” Fox said. “Coach Morris brought in a different mentality for me and made me want to play for everyone else. He turned me into a winner. At my height, there are a lot of point guards out there but not many that have been on winning teams like I have.”

Morris said he was pleased to see hard work pay off in the way of full scholarships.

“This is why we do it (coach),” Morris said. “We want to help people have the opportunities to better their lives and use the sport they love in order to progress in life. These are two really great kids.”
