Think of 101 favorite things about Hermosa Beach, line them up on Valley Drive, then march them down Pier Avenue and you have the 20th Annual Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade. (There actually were exactly 101 parade entries).
Most of Saturday’s parade participants were familiar, such as scouts troops, elected officials and city honorees. Some were not so familiar, such as the Beach Cities Parents of Multiples Association, and South Bay Roller Derby. Then there were the surprise favorites, such as Olympic ice skater and Hermosa Beach resident Gracie Gold dressed in green and waving to fans from a red 1936 Packard driven by Maurice O’Brien of the El Segundo Automobile Driving Museum. Other surprise favorites  included the Hermosa Beach Mounted Police and leprechaun PJ Pauley slaloming down Pier Avenue in his go kart
The Hermosa Chamber’s communications and special events manager Matt Bennett pulled the parade together, and also lent his deep, booming voice to announcing the names of the entrants as they reached Pier Plaza.
