The Aquarium of the Pacific is celebrating the Fourth with late hours, 5 to 10 p.m., and a barbecue, 6 to 8 p.m., where the fish can watch you gnaw at some ribs. Pay as you go

Cubensis is performing a benefit concert to offset the medical expenses of their drummer Steve Harris, who is battling Stage 4 colon cancer. Dubbed “Stevestock,” the festival also includes appearances by Moonalice, Jason Sinay, and the Hempstring Orchestra. It takes place starting at 7 p.m. in the Golden Sails Hotel, 6285 E. Nosedive

“Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me” screens for one week at the Nuart Theatre, 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., W. Los Angeles. Memphis band Big Star missed out on stardom, but the film gives us their history, beginning with Alex Chilton (who sang “The Letter” with The Box Tops at age 16) hooking up with songwriter-guitarist Chris Bell – who died in 1978. Bring out the animal

There’s a closing reception from 4 to 8 p.m. for “The Wild Feminine” group exhibition at Gallery Azul, 520 W. Eighth St., San Pedro, which is, as the title suggests, each artist’s take on the wild feminine: what she looks like, what she would do, and/or what she is willing to release from within – and how far you should stand back when she does.
