Sharks shine at Roundhouse Aquarium, Manhattan Beach
Shark feedings are held at noon each Saturday.
The Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier is a place of splendor for kids and adults curious about the ocean, marine life and the environment. The aquarium holds shark feedings on Saturdays at noon and sea story time on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. It’s open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to sunset and weekends from 10 a.m. to sunset. Group and education tours are available.
Shark eggs, also known as mermaid purses, are on display at the Roundhouse Aquarium.
Kicking off the summer on Saturday, May 17 at 9:30 a.m. will be the 2nd Annual Roundhouse 5K Fun Run. Proceeds will fund ocean education programs at the Roundhouse. The cost is $35 per person and includes T-shirts, water and refreshments. The all-ages event at the Manhattan Beach pier will have age-based divisions: ages 9 and under, boys ages 10-14, girls ages 10-14, men ages 15 and older and women ages 15 and older.
The seven-week summer camp is the only science and beach camp in the city. Kids ages 4 to 10 will dig for sand crabs, dissect squid, fish, building sand sculptures, make crafts and shoot a lemon cannon. $200 per week with discounts available for multiple week registrations and siblings. The camp kicks off July 7 and ends August 22.
