Sculpture molds minds- Ocean-themed chess set

Chess set maker Suzi Dalmau began sculpting in 1999 as a way to leave her computer-focused sales representative job behind and get more involved in the real world. Her sculpting skills expanded from clay sculptures and plaster castings of her sculptures to foundry cast bronze and cold cast bronze work. “It’s a lot more rewarding, a lot more work, and a lot more expensive,” said Dalmau, who lives in Redondo Beach. “But it’s all worth it since it all will last forever!” Her chess sets are a great Christmas gift for the avid chess player who wants a chess set that makes a statement. One limited edition set is ocean themed with King Neptune and a mermaid as the Queen. Her sets range from $140 for one figure to $5,000 for a complete set and are sold at private shows and from her studio.
