Sands of Time hits the screen
Redondo Beach resident Artie Couvillon has a five disc DVD version of his three-volume book series.
Redondo Beach resident and beach volleyball historian Artie Couvillon spent the past two years putting his three-volume book series The Sands of Time: The History of Beach Volleyball on DVD.
The five disc, six hour DVD series captures the history of beach volleyball and is narrated by former “Voice of the AVP” and current broadcaster for Time Warner Cable SportsNet Chris “Geeter” McGee.
In 2011, Couvillon was asked to put together a slide show by the CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) when it was announced that the Hermosa Beach Historical Museum would be the home of the CBVA Hall of Fame.
“I had so much fun doing it that I thought I would create a slideshow from my books,” said Couvillon who, was a 2011 inductee into the Hall of Fame.
“Geeter was so excited to handle the narration,” Couvillon said of the Manhattan Beach resident. “He is so talented. I had around 50 pages of manuscript and I think he only did two retakes.
“I couldn’t afford to buy the best surf music to accompany the slideshow, but I went to Royalty-Free Music which was only a one-time fee.”
Volume 1 (1 hour, 1895-1969), Volume 2 (2 hours, 1970-1989) and Volume 3 (3 hours, 1990-2012) include beach volleyball stories, anecdotes and thousands of photos along with video of events, venues, crowds and players.

Current and future professional beach volleyball stars can be watched in person on local beaches this summer.
