Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the U.S. Representative for California’s 33rd Congressional District, announced Thursday at a South Bay Cities Council of Governments event that he will be opening a new district office in Manhattan Beach.

The office, located at 1600 Rosecrans Avenue on the fourth floor, is scheduled to open at the end of this month.

“I am delighted to be opening an office in Manhattan Beach later this month,” Rep. Waxman said in a statement. “Manhattan Beach is centrally located in the new part of the 33rd Congressional District, and I hope this new location will afford me many opportunities to get to know my constituents and for them to have easy access to my office.”

Last November, Rep. Waxman defeated Manhattan Beach businessman Bill Bloomfield in a battle for the seat representing the newly drawn 33rd District, which includes Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica and South Bay’s coastal communities of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Rep. Waxman currently has an office in Beverly Hills and in Washington, D.C.

City Manager Dave Carmany said Manhattan Beach officials are excited to be the location of Rep. Waxman’s sole South Bay presence.

“So much of what we do at the local level is to meet national program intent,” Carmany said. “As we frame those issues going forward, be it the Clean Water Act or any of the national mandates, it’ll be very helpful to have a local presence.”
