Redondo’s boys basketball team shuts down Mira Costa

Redondo Union’s Cameron High is quickly making a name for himself. The junior’s offensive performance matched his number Friday night when High scored a game-high 15 points while leading the Sea Hawks to a 64-44 victory over rival Mira Costa.
High is taking advantage of his opportunity while replacing leading scorer Ian Fox who missed his second straight game with an ankle injury. High also had five assists to help Redondo (14-3, 2-0) remaining undefeated in Bay League action.
Redondo changed from man-to-man to zone defense and kept Mira Costa (15-3, 1-1) in check for most of the game, holding Mustang sharpshooter Justin Strings to eight points and eight rebounds.
Trailing 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, Mira Costa tied the score at 21 before High nailed a 3-pointer and Terrell Carter scored to give Redondo a 26-21 lead at the half.
Ryan Reeves’ layup gave the Sea Hawks a 42-32 edge after three quarters then Carter got hot giving Redondo an insurmountable lead.
After managing only four points in the first half, Carter recorded eight of his 14 points in the final frame including a dunk that drew cheers from the Sea Hawk faithful.
Sophomore Leland Green continued to be a reliable point producer for Redondo, tallying 14 points. Junior Michael Munn added nine points and sophomore Cameron Williams contributed eight points and four blocks.
Dylan Kim scored a team-high 10 points for Mira Costa and Gavin Reagan chipped in with eight points.
Redondo is ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 2AA and continues Bay League action with road games at West on Tuesday and at Palos Verdes on Friday.
Mira Costa entered the week tied for third in the Division 2AA poll and looks to rebound from its loss to Redondo but it won’t be easy. Mira Costa faces two ranked teams this week, traveling to Leuzinger (No. 15, 3AA) on Tuesday and hosting Peninsula (No. 14, Div. 1A) on Friday.
