Redondo Police Beat: car theft thwarted, jailors attached by prisoner being released, robber uses online sales site, man injures three officers before arrest

Attempt Vehicle Theft

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 22, a victim on the 2400 block of Fisk Lane awoke to a loud noise that sounded like his vehicle horn. He looked outside and inside his vehicle, he saw a male suspect wearing dark clothing and a ski mask. The victim began yelling, startling the suspect. The suspect ran down the street, entered a blacked out SUV and fled the area. The investigation revealed a metal nail jammed in the vehicle’s ignition.

Attempted Assault

On Monday, July 24, at 8:16 a.m., Redondo Beach Jail staff members were releasing a subject from custody for petty theft when she became belligerent. Jail staff walked her outside where she twice attempted to punch an officer in the face. She was physically restrained then re-arrested for attempting to assault a custodial officer.

Robbery

On Thursday, July 20, at 1:03 p.m., a victim coordinated a meeting through a popular website to sell a bracelet. The suspect arrived at the meeting point, on the 2200 block of Artesia Boulevard, and forcibly took the bracelet from the victim, then fled in a vehicle with two other subjects. The vehicle was located by officers and all three suspects were taken into custody without incident. They were all booked on robbery charges.

Resisting Arrest / Under the Influence of Drugs

On July 23, at 6:47 a.m., a Redondo Beach police officer responded to a call of a vehicle blocking a driveway on the 1700 block of Harriman Lane. When the officer arrived and attempted to make contact, the suspect fled in his vehicle. He was located a short distance away and became aggressive with the officers. The suspect told the officers, “You’re going to have to shoot me,” then charged them. A fight ensued, during which the suspect and three officers sustained injuries before subduing him. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while the officers were treated at the scene by paramedics.
