Fifty complete teams will join selected individuals and relay teams for the 4th Annual Redondo Nike Track Festival to be held Friday and Saturday at Redondo Union High School.

Competition begins Friday at 4 p.m. with the Distance and Throws Carnival. Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m.

Title sponsor Nike’s involvement creates an enhanced experience for athletes, coaches and spectators and includes the Track Zone where a running gait analysis and full retail space featuring Nike training shoes and spikes.

A DJ will play music throughout the meet and during distance races and Nike will be providing popular heat pressed logos and designs on all souvenir merchandise purchased at the meet.

Top finishers will be awarded specialized Nike medals and all winners will receive Redondo Nike Track Festival Champion backpacks. The top boys and girls team of the Distance Carnival and the throws competition as well as the Saturday meet will receive special custom wood handmade team trophies.

The Redondo Nike Track Invitational has evolved to become one of the premier early meets on the West Coast and includes many of the top teams from California. Elite seeded events serve as qualifiers for the Arcadia Invitational and the Mt. Sac Relays.

Redondo has enjoyed early success this season, particularly with its boys and girls 4×800 relay teams. At the California High School Indoor Invitational at Fresno, the Lady Sea Hawk took first place with Anevay Hiehle, Nicole Beaudoin, Breya Wynne and Amber Gore turning in a time of nine minutes, 34.67 seconds to break the meet record set by Redondo in 2013.

Redondo’s boys team placed second to Great Oak with Justin Herold, Sergio Rodriguez, Nick Wells and Waseem Radi teaming for a time of 8:16.37.

At the Corona Relays, Redondo girls distance teams took first in the 4×800 (9:43.38) and Distance Medley (12:41.86). Kristen Hamlin won the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.34 and Tairyn Montgomery took top honors in the long jump with a mark of 16-08.75.

Redondo boys took first in the 4×800 (8:03.95) and Distance Medley (10:37.48).

Redondo’s distance runners will compete in the Azusa Meet of Champions on Saturday, Mar. 22 at Azusa Pacific College. For the schedule and results of Redondo’s tack and field team, visit runruhs.com.
