Redondo Beach police have released a sketch of the suspect wanted for stabbing two 13-year-olds at the South Bay Galleria last Saturday.

On Dec. 29 at 7:23 p.m., a man stabbed both teens in the chest area while they stood in front of AMC Theatres in the mall, police said. The male victim sustained six stab wounds– one to the chest area, one to the left ribcage area and three to his arms. He stabbed the female victim once in the chest area, once in the left ribcage, and once in the upper left clavicle area.

Both victims were rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery. As of Friday afternoon, they were listed in stable condition and still in the Intensive Care Unit.

Medical personnel expect them to make a full recovery and to be ready for release next week.

Police are not releasing the victims’ names or cities of residence, but confirm that are from the South Bay.

The suspect has been described as male, black, in his 40s, with a tall- to medium-build, and possibly bald. He reportedly has a beard and mustache (black with some gray). At the time of the stabbing, he was possibly wearing prescription glasses and was wearing a knit beanie, a green and brown fatigue jacket, blue jeans and a black T-shirt.

Police have gleaned this information from surveillance footage, which depicts the suspect walking briskly away from the area of the stabbing. The weapon he used has been described as a kitchen knife with a black handle.

Sgt. Shawn Freeman says his motive is still unknown. Detectives are continuing to review surveillance videos that may aid in the investigation.
