Jonathan Chacon, suspect in Redondo Beach double homicide, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Mexico.

Jonathan Chacon, the primary suspect in Tuesday’s double homicide, was located and detained early this morning at a hotel in Rosarito Beach, Baja California.

Chacon, the boyfriend of victim Courtney Bergman, was detained by Mexican authorities after RBPD detectives, Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection worked throughout the night to locate him.

“One of the main reasons [we were] able to solve this case so quickly was due to public’s cooperation and tips we received,” said RBPD Captain Jeff Hink. “Had the message not gotten out by media none of it would be possible.”

According to RBPD, Chacon was transferred back to the United States and is currently in the custody of the Redondo Beach Police Department. He was booked by RBPD just moments ago.

“He has been arrested for murder and will be booked on those charges,” Hink said.

His vehicle, a 1996 black Ford Mustang convertible with obvious bumper damage was missing throughout the morning, but was recently located in a neighborhood in Mission Viejo.

“[We] don’t know how he got down to Baja,” said Hink. “[We] hope to determine how that happened. Looking at possibility of having assistance in getting to where he was.”
