Redondo Beach hires new finance director

Redondo Beach has hired a new finance director, whose role it is to manage the city’s day-to-day financial and accounting activities and who will work alongside the city treasurer elected by the voting public on July 23.

Craig Koehler, presently the finance director for the City of El Monte, replaces Diana Moreno on the city staff.

According to a press release, Koehler’s 30-year track record encompasses accounting and financial experience in the Jurupua Community Services District, Southern California Public Power Association, and Southern California Gas Company. The Seal Beach resident graduated from California State University Long Beach with a degree in accounting, and has earned certification in advanced governmental accounting.

As head of the financial services department, it will be Koehler’s job to oversee the day-to-day management of the city’s finances. The treasurer’s office, on the other hand, focuses more heavily on seeking out income streams for the city by managing its investment portfolio and the revenues it derives from the Transient Occupancy Tax, the Utility Users Tax, sales tax, and property tax.

The finance director reports to City Manager Bill Workman, whereas the treasurer reports to the voters of Redondo Beach.
