Redondo Beach 7-Eleven robbed by masked man

The 7-Eleven convenience store at 226 South Prospect Avenue in Redondo Beach was robbed by a masked man on December 12 around 3: 30 a.m.

According to the police, the suspect robbed the store at gunpoint and took about $250 from the cash registers. He was described as a white adult male wearing a dark gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and black and white shoes.

Police believe the man left the scene on a motorcycle with another person. Redondo Beach Police Officers responding to the emergency call saw the suspected robbers speed away together on a motorcycle with no lights.

According to a press release, officers attempted to pull the motorcycle over, but the driver sped away from them. Officers pursued the motorcycle, leading them to Palos Verdes Estates where the motorcycle crashed at Palos Verdes Drive North and Via Valmonte.

Police set up a containment area, and with the assistance of the Torrance, Palos Verdes Estates, Hermosa Beach, and other law enforcement agencies, conducted a house-to-house search using police dogs and helicopters. During the search, the officers found a backpack which contained the money taken from the store and a replica handgun, similar to the one described by the store clerk, police said. Officers were unable to locate the suspects and the house search was called off around 7:21 a.m.

Investigators are reviewing evidence collected during the search and store surveillance video for possible still frames or video that might identify and help apprehend the suspects. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, phone the RBPD tip line at 310-937-6685 or email crimetips@redondo.org.
