Track & Field: San Diego State senior Allison Reaser, of El Segundo, placed second in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division 1 track and field championships after running a personal-best 2:12.08 in the 800 to finish as runner-up in the seven-event, two day event in Eugene, OR. Reaser was a 2010 national champion in the heptathlon at the Junior Olympics.

 

Running: GI Joe presents the annual Summer Pier to Pier Run on Saturday, July 12 at 7 a.m. Approximately four miles, the course runs in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Entry fee is $45 per runner and includes a t-shirt, goodie bag and raffle prizes. Top twp male and female finishers receive Village Runner gift certificates. Soccer: Registration is open for boys and girls ages 5-14 to attend the 37th Annual Peninsula Soccer Camp at Palos Verdes High School from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (half day) on July 21-25 and Aug. 4-8. Cost is $240 for full day camp; $125 for half day. Camp includes guest speakers, experienced coaching staff and each camper receives a soccer ball. Aquatics: Registration is now open for the 2014 Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim. The swim will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3. Any contestant who did not complete the 2013 Pier to Pier swim must pass a 500-meter “check out” swim held at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 12, 19 and 20 from 9-11 a.m. Registration for the swim is $45 until July 10 (add $5 from July 11-20) and may be done online at surffestival.org or through the Active.com link. Volleyball:  The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding the Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed Tournament at the Manhattan Beach Pier Saturday, July 12 beginning at 9 a.m. The co-ed tournament includes all levels of play and father/daughter competition. Billed as the largest co-ed 4’s beach volleyball tournament in the nation, Smackfest celebrates its 21st year Saturday, July 12 on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Competition runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature many costume-themed teams. Proceeds benefit So Cal Foundation for Children (SCFC). The Dave Williams Memorial Pro Division will offer cash and prizes worth $2,000. Proceeds and raffle from the Pro Division will be donated to USA Volleyball’s fund in Williams’ name. Registration is open for the 2014 Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp for 8-12 year olds. Coached by the Mustang’s varsity team, the camp runs July 21-24 from 1-4 p.m. at Mira Costa High School.  Cost is $250. For more information and to register, email hayley.b.lawson@gmail.com. All incoming Mira Costa freshman and transfer students are invited to attend the girls volleyball tryouts on Monday and Tuesday, July 7-8 in the afternoon/evening. Basketball: Registration is ongoing for the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball (HBYB) Summer League. Open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grades, the league consists of two one-hour games per week beginning on Monday, July 7 and running through Thursday, July 31. Girls ages 8-14 can learn the fundamentals of basketball while improving their skill level at the ProSkills Basketball Clinic held every Sunday from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Spectrum Athletic Club, 2250 Park Place in El Segundo. The head coach is former Mira Costa and UC Fullerton standout Megan Richardson who led the Mustangs to CIF and State finals and was a four-time All-Big West player and the third highest scorer in UC Fullerton history.
