Six-time Bay League wrestling dual meet champion West Torrance continued to show its dominance in the Bay League Championships held Saturday at El Camino College, but Mira Costa matched its rival in the number of grapplers advancing in CIF competition.

Mira Costa wrestlers reached the finals in 13 of 14 weight divisions and will send all 14 to the CIF Inland Division championships to be held Friday and Saturday at Temecula Valley High School.

The top five qualifiers from in each weight class from the divisional championships advance to the Masters Meet on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Mar. 1 at Citizen’s Business Bank Arena in Ontario.

While West captured eight individual league titles, senior Jake Shapiro (152), sophomore Zack Schraeder (182) and sophomore Niilo Niemi (220) earned championships for Mira Costa.

Peninsula’s Garrett Ahn (126), Ben Granger (140) and Triston Martinez (170) were champions in the other three weight classes.
