Manhattan Beach police arrest suspect for stolen vehicle

Manhattan Beach police are seeking help in locating 11-year-old Risabba Foss.

A suspected car thief on Friday prompted police to set up a search perimeter in Manhattan Beach with a K-9 unit and a helicopter from neighboring agencies.

Around 3:38 p.m., a Manhattan Beach police officer ran the license plate of a car traveling westbound on Manhattan Beach Boulevard and discovered that it was a vehicle listed as stolen by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to MBPD Community Affairs Officer Stephanie Martin, the car subsequently turned onto Meadows Avenue. The MBPD officer followed but found the car parked without a driver.

With K-9 assistance from Redondo Beach and El Segundo Police Departments, MBPD set up a perimeter from Manhattan Beach Boulevard to 11th Street and Meadows Avenue to Sepulveda Boulevard. The Long Beach Police Department provided a helicopter for the search, Martin said.

The search was unfruitful, but around 8:30 p.m., police received a call from a resident on the 1400 block of 10th Street regarding a suspicious individual who knocked on the resident’s front door asking to use the phone, Martin said. An officer identified the person as the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of vehicle theft.
