Manhattan Beach police on Tuesday arrested a Hawthorne man believed to be responsible for an armed robbery last August in which two residents were tied up and held at gunpoint in their home.

Deshawn McDaniel, 30, was charged with two counts of robbery, one count of burglary and one count of kidnapping at an arraignment Wednesday at the Southwest Torrance Court.

On the evening of August 30, a female adult resident arrived home to find two men burglarizing her residence on the 1600 block of 5th Street. Upon confrontation, the men tied her up and kept her at gunpoint while they ransacked the house. Several hours later, the father of the victim arrived and was also held captive. When the suspects left around 12:30 a.m., Manhattan Beach Police Department crime scene investigators responded to process the scene for evidence.

MBPD Sgt. Paul Ford said police are still looking for leads to identify the second suspect. In an interview with detectives, McDaniel refused to disclose any information about the case, Ford said.

“We’re still seeking the public’s help,” he said. “We’re hoping someone will come forward after seeing [McDaniel’s] photo and possibly give us another lead.”

McDaniel’s bail is posted at $2,380,000.

Anyone with information is advised to contact MBPD Sgt. Paul Ford at 310-802-5123.
