Manhattan Beach police detained a 17-year-old Mira Costa student Monday in connection with last December’s incident involving arson and vandalism at the Grand View Elementary campus, according to police.

The arrest comes at the conclusion of a five-month investigation by an MBPD school resource officer, which revealed that eight juveniles, including the suspect, met at the campus on the night of Dec. 21 to “party” and play “beer pong” for several hours, according to police. Graffiti was left at the site, as well as a chair that had been set on fire.

All but one juveniles involved were Mira Costa High School students, MBPD Community Affairs Officer Stephanie Martin said.

Upon detainment, the juvenile was charged with vandalism and arson and was released to his parents. He is expected to appear in court early July, she said.
