Manhattan Beach Citibank robbery suspect arrested

Manhattan Beach police are seeking help in locating 11-year-old Risabba Foss.

Authorities arrested a man last week suspected of robbing a bank in Manhattan Beach and another in Cerritos earlier this month, according to police.

Gregory Lynn Cross, 57, was detained Tuesday afternoon at his estranged wife’s house in Long Beach and booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. He is being charged with robbing a Citibank branch in Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach and a Comerica Bank branch on South Street in Cerritos, said Manhattan Beach Police Det. Mike Rosenberger.

Cross allegedly entered the Citibank branch on July 19 around 1:30 p.m. and passed a note to the teller demanding money. As he presented the note, he told the teller, “100s and 50s,” Rosenberger said. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount, carrying out the bills in his hands. No weapon was involved, he said.

When MBPD reported the crime to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI agents recognized the suspect as someone sought in connection with a bank robbery in Cerritos three days prior. The suspect in the Cerritos robbery, described as a black male in his 50s, also gave a teller a handwritten note which said something to the effect of “This is a robbery. Give me the cash now,” according to a criminal complaint filed on July 19. The suspect walked out with $1,544, according to the document.

Using surveillance footage from the Citibank robbery, authorities identified the suspect as Cross, who less than two years ago finished a six-year sentence in federal prison for bank robbery, Rosenberger said.
