Redondo girls lead local athletes at CIF Track and Field Prelims

Redondo Union’s Kristen Hamlin qualified for the CIF Championships in four events while leading the Sea Hawks to a strong performance in the Division 2 Prelims last Saturday at Moorpark High School.
The CIF Southern Section Championship finals will be held Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Cerritos College.
Hamlin finished 4th in the 300 hurdles (45.17), 5th in the 100 hurdles (15.11), 8th in the 100 (12.24) and ran the second leg on Redondo’s 2nd-place 4×100 relay team with Kennedy Hardemion, Tairyn Montgomery and Anastasia Chiodo.
Chiodo also finished 7th in the 100 with a time of 12.09.
Amber Gore (2:13.54) and Anevay Hiehle (2:15.07) placed 2nd and 4th, respectively, in the 800 and were members of Redondo’s 4×400 relay team with Breya Wynne and Zuri Henderson that finished 2nd at 3:53.59.
Redondo freshman pole vaulter Kaitlin Heri tied for 1st with a mark of 11 feet.
Mira Costa’s Shante Robinson won the 300 hurdles (43.42), placed 6th in the 100 hurdles (15.65) and ran the opening leg on the Mustang’s 4×400 relay team with Emily Jones, Myra Elrington and Camille Mills placing 6th with a time of 3:59.16.
Natasha Brunstein will represent Mira Costa in the 1,600 after finishing 3rd at 5:04.73.
Also in Division 2, South Torrance’s Alexis Henry qualified in the 100 (2nd, 12.03), 200 (4th, 25.10) and the 4×100 relay with Mari Dear, Alyana Canister and Darrian Jones who finished 4th at 48.62.

South distance standout Kim Coscia placed 3rd in the 1,600 at 10:46.08.
North Torrance will be represented by dual threat Jasmine Bass, who won the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 11.5 inches and placed 6th in the long jump (17-0.75) along with Tiara Scott who finished 7th in the 400 (57.79).
Torrance will send Tyra Jackson (8th, long jump, 16-7.75) and Cherry He (9th, triple jump, 36-2.5) and West will be represented by Zoe Anderson (9th, long jump, 16-6).
In Division 1, Peninsula sophomore Tunika Onnekikami qualified in the 200 (24.91) and 400 (56.07) while teammate Tammy McVickar advanced in the long jump with a mark of 5-6.
In Division 4, Bishop Montgomery will send its 4×100 relay team of Bernadette Amofa, Angela Francis, Maddy Grant and Zia Norris which finished 9th at 51.05 along with Tess Allen (7th, high jump, 5-0).
In boys competition, Redondo will send three runners to compete in the 800. Sergio Rodriguez (4th, 1:55.97), Dustin Herold (5th, 1:55.70) and Nicolas Wells (8th, 1:56.67) also qualified in the 4×400 relay with Jerone Jackson after turning in a 6th-place time of 3:26.02.
Herold also finished 4th in the 1,600 at 4:18.76, Carlos Suarez finished 3rd in the 3,200 (9:18.54) and Tate Curran took 9th in the pole vault (13-6) for the Sea Hawks.
Mira Costa’s Robert McMahon finished 7th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.84.
In Division 1, Peninsula thrower Mitchel Charles advanced in the shot put (57-1) and discus (171-1).
Palos Verdes distance runners qualified in Division 3. In the 1,600, Miles Irish finished 2nd (4:19.85) and Luke Letwin placed 9th (4:22.83). Casey Celestin finished 3rd in the 3,200 with a time of 9:12.66.
In Division 4, Bishop Montgomery’s Marlique Straughter took 3rd in the high jump clearing the bar at 6 feet, 2 inches.
