Former Mira Costa High School star Jordan Raney is considered one of the top youth water polo players in the nation.

Former Mira Costa High School star Jordan Raney is considered one of the top youth water polo players in the nation.

Water Polo: After being named the CIF Division 3 Player of the Year and a 1st team All-American as a senior at Mira Costa High School, Jordan Raney has been selected as one of 13 players to represent the U.S. at the FINA Youth World Championships in Madrid, Spain Aug. 25-31. in the last month, Raney won gold at the Junior Pan American Championships before winning bronze at the US Open. Volleyball:  The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments this weekend at the Hermosa Beach Pier in conjunction with the international Surf Festival. Saturday’s action features Men’s B, Open and Women’s Open divisions followed by Men’s Unrated, Women’s A and Co-ed A and AAA tournaments on Sunday. Cost is $55 per team ($75 for Open divisions). Triathlon: Registration is open for the Day at the Beach Triathlon to be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 in Hermosa Beach. The event includes a ¼ mile ocean swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. A 1-hour swim clinic will be offered on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 8 a.m. at 10th Street in Hermosa Beach. Fees are $115 (individual) and $180 (relay). Add $10 after Aug. 31. Soccer: Registration is open for boys and girls ages 5-14 to attend the 37th Annual Peninsula Soccer Camp at Palos Verdes High School from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (half day) on Aug. 4-8. Cost is $240 for full day camp; $125 for half day. Camp includes guest speakers, experienced coaching staff and each camper receives a soccer ball.
