Sewer service fee rebate

Eligible disabled Hermosa residents have until July 30 to apply for a rebate of the city’s sewer service fee.

The rebate will cover all of the fees and is available to property owners older than 65, or those who are permanently disabled and have an annual household income of less than $75,000 per year.

The fee, which is assessed by the city but appears on the county property tax bill, covers the 2015-16 fiscal year; the fee is $115 for single-family residences and condos and $69 for multi-family residences. Those eligible can also apply for a rebate for 2016-17 when the fees will rise to $116.96 and $70.17.

To apply for the rebate, residents must provide a completed rebate form, along with proof of age, a copy of the county tax bill and proof that the bill has been paid, such as a tax receipt from the county. Materials should be submitted to the Finance Department at City Hall.

Those applying may obtain the rebate forms at City Hall, or online at:

Emergency Response training

Hermosa and the Los Angeles County Fire Department will host a series of free emergency response training classes starting this weekend.

Developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) program will feature instructions for residents on what to do in case of a natural disaster, when public safety and medical personnel may be limited in their response. Hermosa residents who complete the program are eligible to join the HbCERT program, a team of volunteers assigned to assist in case of emergencies.

Classes behind Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Community Center.
