Hermosa Beach news briefs: HB sister city association now a tri-cities exchange
Tri-Cities student exchange
The Hermosa Beach Sister City Association is accepting applications for the 2013 student exchange program from families of 7th and 8th grade students in the cities of Hermosa, Manhattan, and Redondo Beach. Applications are available on line at hb-sistercity.org. Students would spend a week over spring break in the city of Loreto, Baja California, Mexico. Students stay in homes with families and participate in field trips and other chaperoned activities. In the summer, Loreto students visit Hermosa Beach for a week.

Mural unveiling
The Hermosa Beach Murals Project will unveil its third mural this Sunday, Nov. 18 at 12:30 p.m. on the north-facing wall of 1007 Hermosa Ave. “Hermosa Jazz” is the third of a ten-mural project to be completed over ten years. Beginning at 11 a.m. as well as after the unveiling, the Lighthouse Café, 30 Pier Ave., will open its doors for a celebration. The festivities at the Lighthouse are free for Mural Project members and $20 for other patrons. A percentage of the admission and food and drink sales at the Lighthouse will be donated to the Hermosa Beach Murals Project, a non-profit organization sponsoring a fourth mural in 2013.
Fundraiser for 9-year-old fighting cancer
The Comedy & Magic Club will host a fundraiser Nov. 20 for 9-year-old Jasmine Faulk, who has rare sinus cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Faulk is the daughter of Hermosa Beach Police Officer Everett Faulk. Tickets are $20. The show starts at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6: 30 p.m. For more information, phone Kristine Kiesling at 310-351-9315
Socks for Seniors
Socks for Seniors is looking for sock donations as well as area coordinators to collect them. The national program seeks socks and not cash donations. Local area coordinators would provide a location for a drop-off box and bring the socks to a nursing home, assisted living facility or senior community. Sandpipers Home Tour
The 20th annual Sandpipers Home Tour will view distinctive homes in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach from Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 2. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Proceeds benefit more than 60 local charities as well as families and individuals in need of financial help. Sandpipers is a volunteer organization that for 81 years has served the South Bay through charitable and philanthropic programs.
Beach Cities Toy Drive
To donate items for the 20th Annual Beach Cities Toy Drive, drop off toys at the Hermosa Beach fire Station, 540 Pier Ave. The toy drive is a cooperative effort between the cities of Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, and the toys benefit children of local charities. Christmas light exchange
Holiday decorators can trade up to two working strings of incandescent Christmas lights for two new, energy-efficient LED strings Nov. 13-16 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the South Bay Environmental Services Center, 20285 South Western Ave. Suite 100. Fundraiser for victims of child slavery
A fundraiser to help the victims of child slavery is set for Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Establishment bar, 1332 Hermosa Ave. The event will include a silent auction and raffle for a $5 cover charge, with all proceeds going toward completing an art center in Ghana. East Coast rivalry fundraiser
Local Boston and New York sports fans will put their rivalries aside Sunday, Nov. 18 to raise funds for their East Coast counterparts, who are recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross Red Cross. The fundraiser is being organized by longtime local bar manager Bobby O’Malley, who figures if all the Easy Coast kids he’s employed over they years show up, that the fundraiser will be a success. Boston stronghold Fat Face Fenners is the host from noon to 5 p.m., 53 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach.
