Hermosa Beach home invasion robbery suspect arrested, investigation ongoing

Police arrested a suspect early this month for the July 31 home invasion robbery on The Strand in Hermosa Beach.

Hermosa Beach police arrested Jose Luis Delgado, 19, in his San Bernardino home last Monday on charges of kidnapping, robbery and burglary.

According to police, around midnight July 13, a woman woke up in her bedroom to find two strangers rummaging around. They told her they were police officers but refused to show credentials, subsequently forcing the victim to accompany them around the residence in search of valuables. Before making their escape with jewelry and cash, they forced her into the bathroom.

During the incident, the next door’s alarm started going off, likely by another burglar. Police found that the electricity to the house had been turned off, accounting for the delay in the burglary alarm. Sgt. Robert Higgins says detectives believe the two are most definitely linked.

Delgado posted a $100,000 bond the day following his arrest.

Police say more arrests may follow as the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Jonathan Cruz at (310)318-0332 or jcruz@hermosapolice.org.
